Pirates Plund-Arrr docks on Wii

The Nintendo Wii gets another kiddy title in the form of Pirates Plund-Arrr, which isn’t going to score points with the bunch of hardcore gamers out there, that’s for sure. Thanks to the efforts of Majesco (yes, the company that was more or less saved by the success of Cooking Mama on the Nintendo DS and started rolling out a bunch of shovelware for both the DS and Wii after that), Pirates Plund-Arrr for the Wii takes a different approach by introducing some degree of fun in a frantic beat-’em-up title, allowing you to hunt the high seas for the renegade captain Rudebelly who has gotten away with the Scepter of Power, and has performed the dastardly deed of unleashing an army of cursed dead, ghastly ghouls and menacing bosses onto the world.

In Pirates Plund-Arrr, players will fight through creature-filled areas like a murky swamp, an underwater city, and a haunted village to ultimately face-off against the scallywag Rudebelly and retrieve their stolen treasure. It’s serious business in a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously: would-be pirates can ride warthogs for “drive-by style” attacks, battle hulking slug bosses and trigger meat meteor showers raining down from above. These cute, but dangerous, swashbucklers will take on more than 40 diverse enemies – including skeletons, slimefish, mummies and lots of other nasties that want to ruin an otherwise pleasant Caribbean adventure. Good thing players have cool combo attacks and a bounty of weapons, from razor-sharp meat cleavers to flaming axes, to ensure that mowing down monsters never gets old! Players can also use the environment to their advantage by picking up rocks and barrels to hurl or simply snatching up the baddies themselves to toss them overboard. As players progress, they’ll gain XP points that will earn them perks and upgrades that will cause more damage to enemies. In addition, Pirates Plund-Arrr, lets 4 mates plunder together for co-op, beat-em action!

No idea on pricing, but we do know that Pirates Plund-Arrr for Wii will roll out this coming April. Hopefully they won’t have the wind knocked out of their sails with disappointing sales figures, this.

Additionally, anyone can create their own species in Star Trek Online, as well as customize the look of their avatar’s uniform. Star Trek Online allows players to become a warrior in the Klingon Empire or join the Federation’s esteemed Starfleet and explore a never-before-seen, completely interactive Star Trek universe.

NetDragon launches open beta testing of Tian Yuan – Console news

Recent Slim PS3 news:

MMORPG’s have how taken off in a big way, ever since EverQuest captured the imagination of gamers worldwide. Despite this World of Warcraft was and still is the undisputed king till today, and with good reason, too. After all, who can forget the fantasy world of Azeroth as well as all of the game’s quirks and dungeons to explore with your guild? Glad to see that the Chinese game developers aren’t just going to let this goldmine slip by them, as NetDragon Websoft Inc. has just announced that they have successfully launched their first open beta testing for its 2.5D fantasy MMORPG known as Tian Yuan just before Christmas last year.

Tian Yuan, which incorporates myths from the glorious Tang Dynasty, was created after three years effort fro the Eudemons Online team. Players can join one of the four major schools of Chinese martial arts and fulfill special tasks with different spiritual creatures. Moreover, they can also experience joys that cannot be found elsewhere, such as becoming immortal through practice and undergoing reincarnation. As one of the most significant products of NetDragon this year, Tian Yuan combines the perfect game setting, music and art. Enriched by eastern mythology, this game will be an entirely new gaming experience for players, changing how they view the world with a unique visual and audio experience.

For WoW addicts, we are sure that there is no substitute for them, but others who are willing to try something that is far different in terms of storyline, art direction and possibly style, Tian Yuan might be just the thing to get you going. It’s got to be worth a try I suppose.

Call of Duty: World at War map pack bundle now out

The latest iteration of the Call of Duty franchise has smashed many records along the way since its release pretty recently, outdoing even movies when it comes to total gross, making some people wonder just which industry would be more lucrative assuming one makes it big, so to speak. But I digress – the Call of Duty: World at War map pack bundle is already readily available in North America, where owners of the Xbox 360 will be able to enjoy it on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 2,000 Microsoft Points, while folks rocking to the Sony PS3 can always get the Call of Duty: World at War map pack bundle for $24.99 over the PlayStation Store.

The bundle from developer Treyarch and Activision Publishing, Inc. features the complete collection of nine multiplayer maps and three co-op Zombie maps from Call of Duty: World at War Map Packs 1-3. Fight through war-torn Berlin in “Nightfire,” battle through the jungle and waterfalls of “Banzai,” and defend an armored island in “Battery.” Zombies and Hell Hounds attack in “Verruckt” (Zombie Asylum), “Shi No Numa” (Zombie Swamp), and “Der Riese” (Zombie Factory). Survive against the onslaught of Zombies with the help of Perks-a-Cola machines, Monkey Bombs, and the powerful Wunderwaffe DG-2.

Expect Call of Duty: World at War map pack bundle to arrive in Europe for our friends across the Atlantic next January 7th, which means they can’t enjoy the title in time for Christmas. What are the video games lined up on your side that you intend to complete during this holiday season?

Atari unveils new programs in Champions Online – Console news

Latest console news:

Atari and Cryptic Studios has just announced that they will be unveiling four more new programs in order to celebrate the coming holiday season in CHampion Online, and according to Bill Roper, Executive Producer of Champion Online, “We really wanted to celebrate the holidays by giving our players some really fun gifts. So we’ve cooked up a brand new winter event, and created several new ways to share the joy of Champions Online.” More details on the famous four would be revealed in the extended post.

Champions Online taps into a rich universe of heroes and villains with unparalleled intrigue and adventure. Cryptic Studios has taken the genre to new heights with Champions Online’s fast paced, “real time” action combat and the power of total customization. Through Champions’ unique character customization tool the player can create and individualize every component of their hero: name, back story, costume, powers and abilities can all be modified in countless ways. In addition to allowing players to transform into the ultimate hero, gamers can craft an enemy of the extreme opposite, concoct a villainous history for their ultimate foe and guarantee themselves a truly unique experience.

The first among those would be the Attack of the Misfit Toys. Apparently, the winter holiday season has caused psychotic bad guy Black Harlequin to make deadly changes to all the toys being given out in Millennium City. As with any bad guy worth his salt, he has his very own sidekick – a giant, murderous mecha-teddy known as Clarence, to join in on his heinous “fun”.

Cryptic Studios is also initiating a referral program that enables players to invite a friend to play free for ten days, hoping that during those ten days, the friend of yours will be hooked in some way. The player and recruit will be able to win a rare in-game action figure and bonuses. As an added incentive, each recruit who buys the game will enable the players who roped them in to earn an extra costume slot and 400 Cryptic Points which they can spend as they wish.

Apart from that, Cryptic Studios also invited new players to enjoy a Champions Online demo. Players will be able to check out the tutorial for free, helping defend Millennium City against alien invasion. You can create a couple of fully customized characters and play them all the way up to Level 15 within the tutorial for added effect.

Those who prefer to get their gaming fix in a mobile manner will also be pleased to know that Cryptic Studios has plans for Champions Online mobile thanks to a new iPhone app. Champions Companion can be downloaded for free from the App Store, where it enables players to keep up with the latest game news, view their characters and communicate with friends playing the game.
