Or at least improbable.
In an interview largely about Final Fantasy XIII, Yoshinori Kitase, the game’s producer stated that it was “unrealistic” to remake Final Fantasy VII with the glorious HD graphics of FFXIII.
Kitase explained that Final Fantasy XIII took three plus years to make, and due to the scope, Final Fantasy VII would take three to four times as long to create. That means in order to recreate a version of FFVII with the production values of FFXIII would be a decade, or so, long process. Unrealistic, seems to be an appropriate word.
It’s not that the interest isn’t there. Kitase mentioned that if the facilities and team existed that could crank out FFVII HD in a year, they’d certainly be into doing it.
So here’s hoping for a shift in the way animation is done, or some other magical tech falls from the sky that would make productions of a Final Fantasy game faster. Until such time, keep watching Advent Children… it’s as close as we are going to get to seeing Cloud and Co. in 1080p anytime soon.

Now though, Kitase has said that it would only happen if the facilities were there for the development team to remake the legendary title in a year. The newly announced Xbox 360 Final Fantasy XIII Special Edition Bundle comes complete with two wireless controllers, a copy of Final Fantasy XIII (naturally), access to exclusive downloadable content (specifically avatars) and, the undoubted highlight, a 250GB hard drive engraved with the Final Fantasy XIII name. Additionally, if you’re really looking to complete the package you could opt-in for a strictly limited edition faceplate, which will be made available ‘promotionally in very limited numbers’ created by none other than Square Enix’s famed character designer, Tetsuya Nomura. The Xbox 360 Final Fantasy XIII Special Edition Bundle with engraved 250GB HDD is set to land on March 9th but, at this juncture, no pricing information has been made available (either for the bundle with faceplate or without).

How much do you think this bundle will cost when available? Considering it is Final Fantasy that we’re talking about here, it would be advisable to get your advanced order in before anyone else, unless you love being disappointed on launch day.
