REVIEW: No More Heroes 2 Brings the Hardcore Violence Back to the Wii

The latest gaming news: No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is the realization of worried mothers’ fears about games rotting young brains. If any game could be called pure sex, drugs and rock & roll, Desperate Struggle would be it. It is made by the wildly bizarre developers at Grasshopper Manufacture, lead by the charismatic Suda51, who is quoted as saying, “Being alone is very important. I go to the bathroom, I try to poop and then I will come up with a [videogame] idea.” Past titles from Grasshopper include the strange Killer7 on the Nintendo GameCube and Flower, Sun and Rain, the Groundhog’s Day of gaming on the PS2 and DS. They have a history of eschewing normal conventions of game design and trading them in for unique traits that make games memorable. Desperate Struggle keeps with that tradition.

The main character in Desperate Struggle, Travis Touchdown, is a brash, cocky frat boy that loves to shove his talent of killing people down his opponents’ throats. He has no remorse for slaying people where they stand and is as unlikeable as they come. The world he lives in, Santa Destroy, is a cold city where safety and peace are as fictional as green eggs and ham. In the beginning of the game, the only reason he is motivated to enter into another assassination tournament like the first game is because he wants to spend a night hanging from the chandeliers with the United Association of Assassins agent Silvia Christel, and not because his life was in danger or because it was the right thing to do, like many modern altruistic videogame heroes. If Travis were labeled in real-world context, he’d be a horny, 16 year-old boy Nerd Raging on Xbox Live. This site is updated several times each day with all latest Free Slim PS3 news and reviews.

Hit or Not music-based social network game

Latest games console news:

The first music based social network game was released last week, known as Hit or Not, where it was available only to Facebook users initially. As for Myspace and iPhone users, you will just have to wait until their respective versions are completed and released by the developer. Just a quick question – what type of games do you play on your Facebook, or do you use it purely to keep in touch with family and friends from afar in a more serious, solemn manner?

Following the recent phenomenal rise in popularity of social network games such as Farmville, Hit or Not allows players to become virtual music moguls. By listening to and ranking songs, players accumulate virtual cash they can use to “sign” and bribe artists and various other nefarious music biz activities. If the songs “signed” by the player rise on the Hit or Not charts, that player can “sell” those songs to make a (virtual) profit. The Hit or Not stock exchange is one financial institution that can never go bust, only perpetually up and down! iTunes compatible MP3 downloads of all the songs are for sale for real money wherever the songs are displayed and roughly 80 percent of the retail price goes straight to the artist.

It is interesting to note that the entire catalogue of music on the Hit or Not system is from the 10,000+ independent artists using theBizmo microstore widget. According to UGC, their artists are part of the company, and wants to keep users involved in tandem with the bands’ love for participation. The game has worked pretty well so far in the first week along, boasting dramatically increased exposure and more than triple the revenues to date.

Nintendo Download – 1/25/10: Look Out for Numero UNO with New Game Downloads from Nintendo

On the outset, today’s offerings don’t really look like anything special, and that may lead some to feel that Nintendo couldn’t keep up the string of good updates forever, but things aren’t as bad as they seem.

I doubt any of WiiWare’s offerings– UNO, bittos+, or the transparently-titled “Aha! I Found It!” Hidden Object Game will have anyone jumping out of their seats, though DSiWare’s AiRace: Tunnel, Escapee GO!, and NUMBER BATTLE may pique some curiosity. But perhaps the hidden standout amongst today’s offerings?

Ghoul Patrol. It may not sound familiar, but this LucasArts title just so happens to be the sequel to Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and so may be worth a look for those who enjoyed the cult classic.

But while that may be all well and good, I know some people are getting impatient and wondering the same thing as I: where is Cave Story already? Slim-PS3.com is updated regularly per day with all latest gaming news and reviews.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Art Book on the Way

A few scans have been released from the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 Master Art Works. The book is set to release in Japan just before the end of the year.

The scans suggest that the book – releasing on December 28th for 3,045 yen (about $34), will contain a lot of unreleased art work by Yoji Shinkawa for Metal Gear Solid 4. Import vendors like Play-Asia are already taking pre-orders.

This will be the fourth full art book dedicated to a Metal Gear Solid game and the first released in six years.

The first two games had an art book dedicated to each, but Metal Gear Solid 3 did not, only getting a small back story book called “The Countdown” that contained some art work. The third art book was a 2004 updated version of the one for the original Metal Gear Solid that contained additional assets from the Gamecube remake.
