PS3 Slim news: Heavy Rain Movie Rights Already Optioned, In 2006?

New Line Cinema has bought the rights for the “interactive fiction” game Heavy Rain… quite some time ago actually.
According to a link provided via Joystiq, it looks like the game’s movie rights were sold all the way back in 2006, just after the early Heavy Rain “casting” trailer was shown at E3 that year.
Now, this doesn’t mean that there is going to be a Heavy Rain movie, only that if there is that either New Line Cinema will produce it, or that another company will have to purchase the rights from them.
The dark detective game is so good, one has to wonder if a film could do it justice, or if we’d end up with another Max Payne movie.

Slim PS3 news: Heavy Rain Players Encountering Some Technical Issues

Honestly, we can categorically state we played through Heavy Rain without any noticeable glitches. Sadly, that doesn’t appear to be the case for everyone though, as it appears some people are having technical issues with the game. From freezing, to out-of-sync audio, you can guarantee there’s someone complaining about it right now – most likely on the official Playstation boards where the community are being pretty darn vocal.

Sony’s responded to the community, stating:

“Hi folks, this is just to let you know that the issues reported in this thread and elsewhere are being looked into. We’re currently trying to establish any common factors for people who are experiencing game freezing so if you are having trouble please be as thorough as possible with regards to your PS3 setup – are you using a launch version of the console or a brand new slim, playing in standard or high definition (I’m not suggesting that these are potential causes, just making the point)… any information you can give may help to find where the issue lies.

One word of advice we’ve had already is to avoid switching off your PlayStation while the game is in black screen as this may be affecting your save game. There have been a few reports of incidents where game saves have taken longer than would normally be expected – and with a black screen present it may leave the assumption that the game has crashed. In these circumstances we recommend you wait at least 5 minutes before rebooting – while it’s highly unlikely a save will take this long, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

While incidents of problems with the game are very low we’re working to ensure that everyone gets the Heavy Rain experience they expect. As soon as there is any further information we’ll update further.”

In other disheartening news, those in Europe who ordered the Heavy Rain Special Edition are being advised not to claim their PSN special edition bonuses just yet. Indeed, there is a problem with the soundtrack that should come as part of the PSN redemption code included in the box. Those in the UK who ordered the Special Edition online will be sent a replacement code for the soundtrack, everyone else is advised not to claim the bonuses until next week.

REVIEW: No More Heroes 2 Brings the Hardcore Violence Back to the Wii

The latest gaming news: No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is the realization of worried mothers’ fears about games rotting young brains. If any game could be called pure sex, drugs and rock & roll, Desperate Struggle would be it. It is made by the wildly bizarre developers at Grasshopper Manufacture, lead by the charismatic Suda51, who is quoted as saying, “Being alone is very important. I go to the bathroom, I try to poop and then I will come up with a [videogame] idea.” Past titles from Grasshopper include the strange Killer7 on the Nintendo GameCube and Flower, Sun and Rain, the Groundhog’s Day of gaming on the PS2 and DS. They have a history of eschewing normal conventions of game design and trading them in for unique traits that make games memorable. Desperate Struggle keeps with that tradition.

The main character in Desperate Struggle, Travis Touchdown, is a brash, cocky frat boy that loves to shove his talent of killing people down his opponents’ throats. He has no remorse for slaying people where they stand and is as unlikeable as they come. The world he lives in, Santa Destroy, is a cold city where safety and peace are as fictional as green eggs and ham. In the beginning of the game, the only reason he is motivated to enter into another assassination tournament like the first game is because he wants to spend a night hanging from the chandeliers with the United Association of Assassins agent Silvia Christel, and not because his life was in danger or because it was the right thing to do, like many modern altruistic videogame heroes. If Travis were labeled in real-world context, he’d be a horny, 16 year-old boy Nerd Raging on Xbox Live. This site is updated several times each day with all latest Free Slim PS3 news and reviews.

Slim PS3 news: Weekend Essentials – Issue 14

Brand new role-playing games arrive on PS3 and PSP, and PlayStation Store celebrates Valentine’s Day.

RPG paradise

In Star Ocean The Last Hope: International on PlayStation 3, humanity takes to space in search of a new home after World War III cripples the Earth. Embark on a quest for stars, oceans and hope, and experience the dynamic battle system that sets the Star Ocean series apart from other role-playing games. You can even pilot the Calnus spaceship for the first time and explore the universe as you please.

In the 30 seconds you’ve spent reading this, you could have been playing Half Minute Hero, the retro RPG on PSP. It features five radically different game modes so you could be playing a traditional RPG one second and a shoot ‘em up or a real time strategy 30 seconds later. And with stylish 8-bit graphics, it takes you back to a time when a handful of pixels could rescue a princess.

What’s in Store?

While those of you that have cracked the case in the Heavy Rain Artificial Reality Game are already sampling the Heavy Rain demo, now more can try the interactive drama on PlayStation 3 by downloading it from PlayStation Store.

echoshift and SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 are two upcoming PSP games also getting the demo treatment in PlayStation Store. The former is a perplexing puzzler based on time manipulation, while the latter is the latest instalment in the hit tactical shooter on PSP.

Love is in the air as EyePet and LittleBigPlanet get their own Valentine’s Day downloads, and what better way to express your love than with Flower? The serene downloadable hit is now available at a special price, along with a Dynamic Theme to bring some calm to your XMBTM (XrossMediaBar).

This week’s films

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to join your loved ones and friends on the couch for a good film, and the PlayStation Store Video Store has just what you’re looking for, whether that’s a romantic comedy or an explosive thriller.

Couple’s Retreat is this week’s featured release and it sees Vince Vaughn head an all-star cast in a light-hearted comedy. Eight couples embark on a group holiday, only to discover that they’ve signed up for an unconventional form of couples’ therapy – and the activities are not optional.

This week also sees the arrivals of The Taking of Pelham 123, a New York thriller starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, and District 9, the sci-fi hit set in South Africa. Both are available to rent from PlayStation Store.

Heavy Rain To Utilise Motion Controller? News

David Cage, the Co-founder of Quantic Dream and Director of Heavy Rain, has hinted that the game may still be compatible with the PS3 Motion Controller despite the fact that it will launch next week, many months ahead of the anticipated release of Sony’s peripheral.

“The very first version of the game design was based on motion control, but it was not feasible at the time. But all the controls of the final version of Heavy Rain are still based on motion,” Cage told Dagbladet (translated by MTV Multiplayer).

“I have a lot of interest in Sony’s motion device and there is a good chance that we announce something about it in the coming weeks,” he continued.

Cage is clearly indicating that the Motion Controller could be backwards compatible with Heavy Rain when the peripheral is eventually released. Whatever the case, we’ll bring more on this story as and when Cage decides to announce further details…

PS3 news: PS3 Heavy Rain Demo Confirmed For Feb. 11

Going gold means the game’s ready to be burned to millions of Blu-Ray discs to be shipped to retail outlets everywhere.

As far as the demo is concerned, come February 11, every man, woman, child, and half-link, can get his or her hands on a demo for the game.

No word has come our way about what exactly gamers will do in the demo, but ambitious storytelling is the name of the game, so we can expect that? Yeah, probably.
