Alpha Protocol has been delayed for so long that its original near-future storyline has since become the near-past. Nonetheless, we’re sure that a QA tester somewhere in a dark corner of Obsidian’s studio is hurriedly changing any of the game’s references to the year 2009 (its original setting) with 2010, thereby retaining its near-future credentials.
Whatever the case, SEGA has just confirmed a European release date of May 28th for the espionage infiltrated RPG, which essentially marks the game’s second big delay on its tumultuous path to release. Originally scheduled for an early 2009 release, Alpha Protocol was then pushed to October 2009, and then spring 2010.
“Alpha Protocol offers a new take on the RPG genre giving players the chance to immerse themselves in the world of modern day espionage,” said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director of SEGA Europe. “Being the first ever RPG in this setting, Obsidian has written a truly immersive storyline with a cast of characters everyone will remember.”

When it comes to RPGs, you know that you can’t go wrong if Square Enix is the name behind a particular product. Well, RPG nuts who have gone through the latest Square Enix adventures and are itching for the next release will be pleased to know that the company has just announced that their latest Action-RPG known as NIER will be making its way to the PS3 platform as well as the Xbox 360 console, where it will hit the North American market this coming April 27, 2010. Being an Action RPG, it will see the amalgamation of RPG gameplay mechanics alongside intense and bloody combat. Of course, what is an RPG without magic? NIER has plenty of that as well, so fret not.
Players will jump into the title role of the unyielding Nier as he begins his desperate quest to discover a cure for his daughter, Yonah, who is stricken with the deadly Black Scrawl disease. Armed with powerful magic as well as mighty swords, Nier will battle alongside formidable allies against waves of dark enemies and giant bosses to discover the truth about the disease, his daughter…and himself. Expect to enjoy unbelievable story twists and reveals in an amazingly intricate storyline set in a world plagued by human anguish, buried secrets and a ravaging disease. We wonder whether it is capable of throwing a real mind twister for us gamers, but we do believe that Square Enix has it in them to include plot twists around every corner for a truly amazing storyline.
